Batman has been a fixture of DC Comics for almost 80 years now. The Dark Knight made his debut all the way back in 1939, making a huge impression as he spread his wings across the cover of his very own comic book. In the years that followed, he would go on to revolutionize the genre in a way that creators Bob Kane and Bill Finger could have only imagined, but it may never have been possible without that first immortal cover.

Since then, the Caped Crusader has fronted countless comic book adventures, appearing in just about every type of scenario possible. Whether he was posing triumphantly against the grim cityscape of Gotham, sharing the spotlight with one of his many famous foes or attempting to escape from some form of dastardly plot, Batman always made an impression when he appeared on the cover of his stories, ensuring readers everywhere that they were in for a treat.

However, during that eight-decade-long run, some sights didn't just capture our attention, they stunned us beyond words. Some were so majestic that it was impossible not to marvel at the wonder before us, and, furthermore, some became so iconic that they even transcended the story they fronted.
