Superman has often been the victim of claims of being overpowered and bland. However, the greatness of Superman doesn't come in his battles and triumphs over supervillains, it is in his understanding of the human condition and spirit that makes him a truly important character.
Nowhere has his compassion and love for his adopted people been so apparent as when Supes talked down a suicidal young woman from atop a skyscraper, not as an all-powerful God from a superior race... but as Clark Kent, the guy like anyone else from Kansas.
