It's easy to forget in the midst of all his flamboyant battles and grandiose alien origins that Superman, at his core, is just a guy from Kansas who wants to do the right thing.
It is in this panel, lifted from a story wherein Superman talks down a suicidal citizen, that perhaps best exhibits Superman's compassion, heroism and unconditional desire to help his fellow man.
