Batman: Year One represented a return to form for the character thanks to the writing by Frank Miller and the illustrations of David Mazzucchelli.

While many of the newer aspects of the character's appearance remained from the time period (1987), the costume's overall grey appearance returned and the yellow circle behind the bat-logo was removed.
