10 Actors Who Became Unlikely Action Movie Stars
3. Colin Firth - Kingsman: The Secret Service
Before 2014, the thought of this soft-spoken romantic comedy actor appearing in an action movie was likely to get audiences rolling in the aisles with laughter. While Firth was known for his tremendous acting skills, he also had a reputation for being the typical polite, effeminate brit who could topple over during a harsh wind.
This even continued after the initial trailer for Kingsman released, with no one knowing what to make of the idea. Thankfully, after audiences got to watch the movie, they performed a 180, as not only did he work well, but he showed some fantastic comfort in the genre and even delivered in one of the best action segments of the last decade.
The upper-class gentlemanly presentation certainly helped, but Firth's most impressive parts of the film came from his stunt work and choreography. The overly stylised fight scenes were mesmerising, and the Bridget Jones star kicked butt in them.
Special mention needs to be paid to the dramatic church scene, in which he massacres an entire congregation of people thanks to the villain's manipulative scheme. Seeing the goofy actor impaling people and flying around like a super spy was mind-blowing, and he looked incredible in it.
