10 Actors Who Ruled 2012

5. Bruce Willis

Bruce Willis is one of those actors who has gravitated away from Hollywood success in recent years, and has had a pretty inconsistent run of movies, though 2012 was thankfully his best year in ages, starring in two of the most beloved films of the year - one an indie, and one a fantastic blockbuster (and in my opinion, the best film of the year). Though Willis began the year with one absolute dud (The Cold Light of Day) followed by a hit-and-miss drama (Lay the Favourite), he soon enough redeemed himself with a cracking supporting turn in Wes Anderson's Moonrise Kingdom, and then ensured he was still a relevant player with a stunning performance in Rian Johnson's excellent sci-fi thriller Looper. The key scene that really proves Willis' worth is when decides to assassinate a child in order to try and ensure that The Rainmaker never fulfils his destiny. We're not sure if he's going to do it, but he eventually goes through with it, a shocking moment that's given greater emotional weight by Willis' anguished face after he's done it. It's proof that those who criticise Willis for being a one-note actor are wrong; the guy can do emotion when the scene calls for it. As for his 2013? We won't be expecting a performance the likes of the two aforementioned ones, but his roles in G.I. Joe: Retaliation, A Good Day to Die Hard and Red 2 could prove fun diversions nonetheless.
