The tragic death of Brandon Lee has been covered enough - this entry is all about the film. The Crow was released in 1994, and practically paved the way for the upcoming MTV cultural goth explosion of the decade.

Eric Draven and Shelly Webster are in love. Due to be married on Halloween, their wedding plans are destroyed when a local gang of mob enforcers demand rent, only to be confronted by Eric. Fun Boy, T-Bird, Skank and Tin Tin have no plans to just collect; Shelly is raped and left for dead, Eric is shot multiple times in the back and thrown from the apartment window.

Death has other plans for Eric and exactly one year later he rises from the grave, led by a mysterious crow that grants him invincibility. Top Dollar, head of organised crime in the city wants this power for himself and before long, the two go head to head in a battle for justice, true love and the soul of the city.

The Crow is a touching and stylish movie, with a practically monochrome palette, filmed with a music video sensibility that just oozed cool in the 90s. Eric and Shelly clearly have a thing for Halloween, as their apartment looks like something from a Poe story and that's not where the Halloween obsession ends.

'Devil's Night' is big business for the mob, and the night before All Hallows Eve, the one instruction is simple: "Set a fire so goddamn big the Gods notice us again.."
