How He Died

In arguably the best cameo of all time, Bill Murray appears as himself in the first Zombieland, revealing that he's been living under the zombie radar by dressing up as one and shambling about undetected in order to pick up supplies and live a quiet life. Unfortunately, he's then mistaken for an actual zombie by Columbus and shot, which kills him.

But Wait...

Not only has Murray been confirmed for a special cameo in the sequel, but fellow Ghostbuster Dan Aykroyd is in as well. They haven't yet confirmed whether Murray will actually be alive, but it's hard to justify the logic that he'd be a zombie after he was killed by more conventional methods.

Will It Be Explained?

There's a possibility that they'll change some rules and Murray will in fact be a zombie - perhaps a pet to his real-life friend Aykroyd? - or that they'll simply suggest that he wasn't dead at all.

At this stage, it doesn't even matter. The cameo is so exciting that they could literally use any flimsy reasoning they like and fans would just be happy to see Murray back.
