10 Most Disappointing Movies From Summer 2014

The summer promised so much but too often delivered so little.

With the summer sadly coming to an end, we've run down those 10 awesome movies which made 2014's summer of cinema a sheer joy to sit through, but what about the films that didn't quite live up to our expectations? As great a summer of movies as it's been, there's always going to be a number of hugely anticipated films that don't quite hit the mark, and are destined to be remembered as such. We've got curious reboots of classic franchises, promising sequels and tantalising original projects that just couldn't live up to the hype that their alluring concept and talented cast and crew mustered up. And why did these movies disappoint? The reasons are numerous: a script that betrayed what came before, relentless product placement (as is true in more than a few cases here), failing to make the most of an interesting new addition, and in one specific instance, greedily watering itself down with the hope of increasing its box office revenue. While the majority of these movies were financially successful, they're going to go down in history as not meeting their full potential, and in the case of franchise fare, may well have derailed the prospect of any future sequels. Which movies let you down this summer? Did we miss any of your biggest disappointments? Or do you care to defend any of these films? Let us know in the comments!
