Blackheart was a pathetic villain in the Ghost Rider movie to begin with, even without taking into account his utter stupidity. Wes Bentley portrayed a character who was nothing like the monstrous, powerful, reality-warping demon from the comic books - he played a whiny emo Goth-type character with pitiful power levels. He was, as we've already stressed, also a complete idiot. Blackheart's leverage over Ghost Rider stemmed from the fact that he had no soul, so Ghost Rider couldn't use his main power - the Penance Stare - against him. So, what did Blackheart do? He used an ancient contract to absorb thousands of souls to become Legion and, in turn, become more vulnerable to the Penance Stare than any other being in existence. Obviously, Ghost Rider then used the Penance Stare to defeat Blackheart by making him feel the pain of the thousands of souls within him. Why didn't the moron realise that would happen? Too much dumb. That's why.
