We all know just how deadly horror movie traps and games can be just from knowing that Saw exists. Regardless of how you feel about that franchise, you have to admit that they are genre-defining movies in terms of introducing the fear-factor to puzzles and riddles. If you say: ‘deadly game movie’ or ‘murder traps’ to anyone, chances are the first one they’ll picture is Saw.

Well outside of the series there actually exists reams and reams of films that employ dastardly puzzles and plots to kill off their characters. Some are harder than others in terms of complexity and need for physical prowess, and a few are rigged from the very start to be completely unsolvable, whether it’s a verbal puzzle or a sprawling maze.

Movies like this have really taken off over the past few years, spawning franchises like Escape Room and proving that audiences love a bit of puzzling horror. It’s easy to watch these movies and say, “oh come on, I could totally do that! I figured it out way before the characters did!”, but in reality you would be just as screwed as them. Just admit it.

10. Cracking Riddles -

Usually the only time you encounter cryptic riddles is at Christmas when they come in the cracker, or in old story books where you’re ordered to answer one to pass over a bridge. Needless to say, if suddenly a serial killer was thrusting these mind-boggling puzzlers on you on the threat of death, you’d probably freeze up a bit.

The riddle here is really a bit of a two-in-one, in that you need to solve the literal riddles to appease the killer if you want the best outcome, but you also need to deduce who the killer is by what information he is pressing for.

Realistically, most people would not be able to figure either of these things out and would consequently end up dead, with their lives destroyed and their beloved family pets blown up. But then again, most people haven’t done the awful things that horror movie characters have done in order to inspire these serial killer attacks…
