1. Bishop's "Blood" Was A Simple Milk & Yogurt Compound (Aliens)

One of the most iconic scenes in James Cameron's Alien extravaganza
Aliens, which pits our heroine against an army of terrifying Xenomorphs, is the one where Bishop - an android - gets ripped in half and all his guts spill out all over the deck and stuff. I say "iconic," but what I really mean is brilliantly gory. That's to say, when Bishop gets mutilated, its his white blood (a trademark of androids in this movie universe) that catches your eye. So what is that stuff? A special liquid conjured up by Hollywood's finest SFX guys? Uh, nope: it's milk (and some yogurt, too, for good measure - and added thickness). Sometimes it's the simplest ways that are the best way, huh? Although, in this case, using milk proved itself to be a bit of a liability: under the heat of the studio lighting, the combination went bad, and Lance Henriksen (the actor who plays Bishop) caught food poisoning. They should probably have opted for coloured water like they did back on
Alien. Oops.
