10 Most Underrated MCU Villains

1. Ultron

Age of Ultron, both the movie itself and the titular villain, pissed off a lot of MCU fans. It had a lot to live up to after the first coming together of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, and fell short in just about every category. In particular, in the eyes of many, the villain.

No, Ultron was not on the same level as Loki from three years earlier, but very few villains are. Just because Stark’s AI operation wasn’t as good as arguably one of the top three MCU villains ever doesn’t mean he was a bad villain.

Ultron wasn’t particularly close to his comic book counterpart, and he was too jovial and quippy for many, but underneath that was a genuinely intimidating and imposing villain who caused the Avengers more than a few problems. He even killed one of them!

What If…? has since shown what MCU fans were robbed of when Ultron failed to make Vision’s body his own, but behind all the disappointment and unwarranted hate aimed at the villain, there is a genuinely compelling story paired with a terrifying performance from James Spader worthy of greater respect than it has received.
