10 Movies That Were About Nothing More Than Dirty Old Perverts

5. Blue Velvet (1986)

Dennis Hopper's career was given a massive boost from his appearance in David Lynch's surreal Blue Velvet. He played Frank Booth - one of the scummiest, most degenerate Dirty Old Perverts in cinema history. In the film a young man named Jeffrey gets drawn into the life of Dorothy - a nightclub singer. He discovers that she is in thrall to Frank Booth - a twisted psychopath who huffs away at a strange gas from an oxygen mask. He has sadomasochistic dealings with Dorothy and is also into dry humping. He has kidnapped Dorothy's husband and son in order to extract sex from Dorothy. Jeffrey gets involved in this tangled web. Dorothy appears to be a willing masochist. Frank finds out about their affair and has Jeffrey brutally beaten and intimidated. A few days later, Jeffrey finds Dorothy naked and bashed up on his front lawn. He insists on going to Dorothy's apartment to sort this mess out once and for all. Jeffrey comes across Dorothy's husband's body and becomes engaged in a fight to the death with Frank. Will the Dirty Old Pervert or the fresh faced lad prevail? Frank is a great Pervert. He is a sadistic asshole who gets off on abusing and raping Dorothy (albeit she seems to like being a masochist if her sexual behaviour with Jeffrey is anything to go by). He is alternately 'Daddy' - a pervert who rapes and demeans her, and he is also 'Baby' in which he takes the role of a child and begs Dorothy to gag him with a piece of the titular Blue Velvet. Did I mention that he swears like a trooper? He must be one of the biggest profanity spouting characters to ever grace our screens. When he is sexually aroused, his swearing reaches subliminal heights. Even Jeffrey is a bit of a pervert, sneaking into Dorothy's apartment to spy on her, indulging in a sexual relationship with both Dorothy - in which SM activity plays a part - and a nice young girl named Sandy. All in all, David Lynch created a massive perv-fest which is intriguing to watch and beautifully realised. Hopper deserves a medal for his demented performance as a perverted Frank Booth which is all too easy to believe it is real.
