10 Original Endings That Would Have Ruined Famous Movies
4. Titanic - Battle For The Necklace
The Actual Ending:
Now in modern times again, Bill Paxton decides to call off his search for the priceless diamond because old Rose's story about the power of love has moved him. Or something.
Meanwhile, an elderly Rose makes her way to the stern of the boat where she dramatically drops the diamond - which she'd had on her this whole time, like a damn jerk - into the ocean.
This action puts her at peace, though, and a short time later she passes away in her sleep. Rose meets up with Jack in the afterlife, where she can live with him for eternity aboard the Titanic.
The Ending We Almost Got:
In this version, Rose is about to drop the diamond into the ocean when Paxton and his crew descend on her and try to stop her. It's a jarring switch in tone, going from a romantic moment of Rose saying goodbye to her past to a full-on hostage negotiation in seconds flat.
She even says the words "Don't come any closer or I'll drop it" while she dangles the jewel over the balcony.
Then it switches moods again, with Rose giving an overwrought speech about how only life is priceless and you should strive to make each day count instead of searching for buried treasure. Then she chucks it into the water. The bearded crew member shouts "That really sucks, lady" while Paxton, somehow buying into her cheesy speech and instantly forgetting the last three years of his life, just kinda...goes with it.
He and the old woman share a super awkward laugh about it. The end.
