Before I start, I'm aware that the James Bond franchise wouldn't be as exciting if everything went right all the time and this is for the sake of argument. I'm focusing on the reality of espionage and with that in mind the amount of missions 007 manages to screw up is astronomical. Instead of relying on stealth and guile, he'd rather hop into a tank and destroy St. Petersburg. If things aren't exploding around him Bond gets bored. Recon isn't his style; he'd prefer to level entire buildings and kill everyone inside to satisfy his thrill seeking personality. The amount of diplomatic incidents he would have caused in reality would reduce Britain's world standing to around zero. He may laugh at the 'yanks' in the CIA for their cavalier attitude but for the most part he's being a gigantic, embassy-blasting hypocrite. Sometimes you find yourself wondering if he'd be more suited to the battlefield than espionage, he's a remorseless killing machine. This is the definition of the '00' title, a hired killer, but I imagine the ideal agent would only need to kill their target not an island full of hired personnel. Some of the people he kills aren't even soldiers, technicians and scientists are all fair game and this is the guy we turn to for the protection of Queen and Country?
