10 Ridiculously Outrageous Video Nasties

10. Anthropophagous The Beast

Timthumb Anthropophagous the Beast, aside from having a dreadfully unintelligible name, serves as probably Greece's worst tourism ad. It's an Italian film from 1980 directed by Joe D'Amato, and it details the experience of two tourists in Greece who encounter the horrible murderer we've taken to calling Nikos the Cannibal. Anthropophagy is, of course, the practice of eating human flesh, so this is basically just a more confusing version of one of the "Cannibal ______" films that were inexplicably popular during the late 1970s. This film is best known about horror aficionados for its famous fetus-eating scene, which is just as disgusting as it sounds and back in the day was enough to get it banned immediately. Anthropophagous the Beast ends with Nikos getting a pickaxe to the stomach and promptly begins noshing on his own entrails. Because that's how cannibalism works, right? You suffer a mortal would and all of a sudden you can't help but notice how delicious your spleen looks. Even writer/star George Eastman has gone on record confessing that he doesn't care for the film very much, and he's the guy who brought us such illustrious hits as Porno Holocaust and Erotic Nights of the Living Dead.
