10 Terrifying Horror Double Bills For Halloween

1. The Exorcist And The Shining

Theme: Masterpieces of the genre. It's all well and good digging around the horror movie archives for an obscure little treat for Halloween, but sometimes it's far easier to go with what you know. To round off our suggestions for Halloween horror double bills we've decided to head straight to the best and pair up two of the genre's undisputed masterpieces. William Friedkin might not have come up with the "demon child" horror movie but with The Exorcist he certainly delivered the genre's true masterpiece - few horror movies have been as critically acclaimed as this. It's not hard to see why - Friedkin has crafted not only a tension-filled, shock-fuelled horror film but also an amazing film in its own right, with the demonic possession of a young girl serving up compelling observations on the nature of faith. Often imitated but never bettered and frequently parodied, this remains the benchmark for demonic possession movies. Stanley Kubrick's masterful - and frequently unfaithful - adaptation of Stephen King's classic horror novel might well be one of the greatest horror movies ever made, which is nothing less than you'd expect from one of the most accomplished directors to have ever lived. Jack Nicholson's performance as Jack Torrance, the struggling writer who becomes the victim of the haunted Overlook Hotel, is one of the finest in his illustrious career. But the real star is the hotel itself, crafted by Kubrick as a surreal puzzlebox from which the characters find themselves desperate to escape. What horror movie double bills would you like to see? Think you can improve on the selection in this list? Why not post some suggestions in the comments below?
