10 Unforgettable Imaginary Friends In Films

5. Elvis Presley (True Romance)

elvistrueromance It's always a privilege to meet into your idol. Especially when they've been dead for sixteen years. Yet such an impossible fate befalls Clarence (Christian Slater), a comic book store clerk and lifelong fan of Elvis, when he is goaded into taking revenge by none other than The King himself (well, Val Kilmer). Having somewhat impulsively married a call girl named Alabama Whitman (Patricia Arquette), he takes an instant dislike to her pimp, Drexl Spivey (Gary Oldman), and, while collecting his thoughts before a bathroom mirror, is visited by a rather straight-talking Elvis. ''Kill him,'' he says as less a suggestion and more an instruction, ''Shoot him in the face. Put him down like a dog''. Clarence isn't particularly perturbed by this vision- it's almost as though he was expecting him, or has the ability to summon dead singers to dish out life advice if and when he pleases- but he is worried about getting caught. And although all this talk of jail doesn't prompt Elvis to break into song or make terrible puns, it does seem to have persuaded Clarence to make a little less conversation and a little more action.
