10 Ways Deadpool 2 Is Actually A Huge Disappointment

Give it time and everyone will have soured on this sequel...

With Deadpool 2 now in theaters, audiences will be filing in to see the continued adventure of the Merc with a Mouth.

The first film was an unexpected box office smash and, even more unexpectedly, hailed by critics. It restored credibility to Ryan Reynold's career and launched an entirely new kind of superhero saga.

So, all the pressure was on for a follow-up to live up to the hype. Whereas the first film was just barely even greenlit, the sequel was set for a primetime summer blockbuster release date and became one of the more hotly anticipated sequels of the year.

But after splitting up the creative team behind the original, via losing director Tim Miller, could the sequel possibly live up to the gargantuan expectations set for it? The verdict is decidedly split. Some seem to really be enjoying it, others seem keen on tearing it to shreds. So while the world collectively makes up its mind on whether this is full of class or belongs in the trash, here are all the ways Deadpool 2 is a massive disappointment.

10. The Humor

Deadpool is going to make vulgar jokes, that's just who he is. But the laziness of the humor in Deadpool 2 is egregious. Whereas Reynolds could jokingly refute claims that the first film was just a live-action episode of Family Guy, he will not be able to do so here.

For example, in the first act of the film, Cable is introduced and teleports back in time to the present day. This set-up leaves room for all kinds of clever humor but instead, the film goes for the absolute lowest common denominator. Simply opting to have some hillbillies standing nearby when Cable appears. They speak at length about the best way to wipe one's ass before Cable steals their truck from them, just before the camera pans down to reveal a set of balls on the truck.

This is the kind of high-class humor Deadpool 2 sticks with throughout its runtime; easy and cheap jokes, with a teenager's understanding of visual humor. There's an extended bit about Deadpool's regenerating dick hanging out from under his shirt, a recurring joke about Russell storing things up his ass, too many sex jokes to count, and the Juggernaut loses his big fight by having an electrical cord shoved up his butthole.

Reynolds is doing his darndest, but there's only so many times Deadpool can make jokes about balls and have them still be funny. And this film far exceeds that quota.
