14 Thought-Provoking Sci-Fi Films To Stream On Netflix Right Now

Remember the bit about Screenplay nominations with Picture nominations? Well for only the third time since 2000, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind actually won the Oscar without the Best Pic nom.

Charlie Kaufman’s second writing credit on the list, but far and away the fan favourite. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is a bit of a cult classic as it only grossed $34 million in theatres. The film features the infrequent serious Jim Carrey performance that is also, wait for it, good (sorry The Number 23).

A couple have reached the end of their relationship and the male half decides to undergo a procedure to have the memory of his significant other erased. The film is clever and brilliant while also being witty and downright tragic. Michel Gondry gives it his familiar flair and the all-star cast of Carrey, Kate Winslet, Kirsten Dunst, Elijah Wood, Mark Ruffalo, and Tom Wilkinson play it like an orchestra.

The film sits at #88 on IMDb’s top 250 of all time - graciously high but also just far too low.
