7. Clerks III
Status: Kevin Smith has talked up a third Clerks film ever since 2006's sequel came out, but considering how packed Smith's directing slate is, it's pretty much an "it'll get done when it gets done" kinda deal.
Why It's Going To Development Hell: Now is really the time to strike, as we've almost repeated the 12-year gap between the first two Clerks movies (feel old yet?), but despite Smith initially claiming it would be his final film, he's since lined up a ton of other projects that have resulted in Clerks III being pushed back repeatedly.
The last major update on the film was that it would be delayed so that Smith could shoot Mallrats 2 first, as the major shooting location (a mall, of course) was only available for a limited time. That movie was meant to start filming at the beginning of this year, but no dice yet.
Don't be surprised if Smith just keeps over-encumbering himself with other, lesser projects and Clerks III becomes a phantom.
