15 Best Jump Scares In Movie History

6. The Evil Hobo - Mulholland Drive

Though not a horror film in the most conventional sense (though it is pretty damn horrific at times), David Lynch's psychological mystery masterpiece lobs a terrifying jump scare at audiences early on, in a fairly delineated sequence where one man tells another about a nightmare he had, where an horrendous figure resides behind the very diner in which they're sat.

The two eventually go to investigate, with Lynch milking the scene for maximum suspense, before the grotesque figure, a dirty, presumably homeless woman, emerges from around the corner, causing the man who dreamed of her to collapse from fear.

While it's a relatively straightforward jump scare, Lynch's masterful slow-burn approach to the sequence and his minimal use of jarring music makes this an all-time jump scare.
