This
one may be a surprising addition, given how many viewers prefer the admittedly clever
twisty time-travelling machinations of Part II, but for our money the purest
fun to come from Robert Zemeckis’ adventure trilogy is in this wild west instalment.
For one thing, the broad character comedy is as funny as the original film,
whilst the sight of Christopher Lloyd’s iconic eccentric Doc Brown falling for
Mary Steenburgen’s mild mannered schoolmarm is just instant gold.
Add in the series’ most ferocious villain in the form of Mad Dog Tannen, a western spin on the original film’s bully Biff, and you’ve got one of sci-fi most impressive sequels before we even get into those golden set pieces littered throughout this one—whether it’s the climactic gunfight, or the unbearably tense time-train Delorean chase, or Marty’s narrow escape from death when he runs afoul of Tannen’s gang early on, or…
