Before helming The Dark Knight series, Inception and Interstellar, Christopher Nolan made his name with a low-budget psychological neo-noir called Memento in 2000. The most notable thing about Memento is the order in which the film plays out: played out in a mix chronological (black and white) and reverse (colour) order, the two sequences of scenes are interspersed and meet at the end. It is original, confusing and brilliant. The film was a success at the box office and appeared on many critics 'Best of the Decade' lists as well as bringing Nolan to the attention of the establishment.
