David Robert Mitchell has been a significant, if underrepresented, directorial talent ever since his first feature film, The Myth of the American Sleepover, came out 15 years ago. He has made just two films in the interim: the curiously surreal and somewhat divisive Andrew Garfield vehicle Under the Silver Lake (2018), and what is considered to be one of the formative movies of modern horror, It Follows (2014).

It is primarily thanks to It Follows, but also to Mitchell’s ability to remain fluid in his approach to genre, that everyone is so keen for his upcoming sci-fi feature Flowervale Street.

Taking us back to the ‘80s, the film charts mysterious happenings on Flowervale Street in American suburbia, challenging the Platt family’s resolve, ability to come together, and will to survive. Oh, and there are almost certainly going to be dinosaurs.

Chances are things are going to be human-centric - as in Mitchell’s other films - with the prehistoric threat lingering in the darkness. And, thankfully, the cast boasts Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor (hopefully not doing an accent), so we know we’re in safe hands.
