25 Most Hotly Anticipated Movies Of Summer 2018 - Ranked

23. Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again

Mamma Mia Here We Go Again Cher
Universal Pictures

Release Date: July 20

Billed As: The long-awaited sequel to 2008's adaptation of the hit ABBA-themed musical, this time focusing on Sophie's (Amanda Seyfried) pregnancy, the mysterious absence of her mother Donna (Meryl Streep) and the arrival of Sophie's grandmother, Ruby (Cher).

Hype: The recent announcement that ABBA will be reforming to release their first new music in 35 years couldn't really be timed any better, and will surely give a solid boost to a sequel that'll play splendidly with the under-served middle-aged female demographic.

There's been a lot of fan hand-wringing about Streep's Donna possibly being killed off given her lack of presence in the trailers, but use of Godfather 2-esque flashbacks featuring a young Donna (Lily James) should be amusing, and how can you not love Cher being thrown in the mix?

It probably won't be one of the summer's big critical hits, but it'll hopefully be a lot of silly fun.
