28. Racer Gets Violently Killed...Nobody Seems To Care (2 Fast 2 Furious)

Early on in the second movie, Carter Verone (Cole Hauser) invites various racers to audition to work for him, by racing to a police lot to collect something, leading to a spectacular race sequence in which Brian, Roman and numerous other anonymous drivers all try to get there first. Despite the relatively silly tone of these movies prior to this, things get weird when the dude driving a red Mustang gets caught between two lorries, bouncing around before getting caught under one of the truck's wheels and being unambiguously crushed to death. It's a weird moment because nobody really reacts with any horror to it despite a human being just losing their life, and in most of the Fast and Furious movies, any death is treated with a certain degree of respect (like when Owen Shaw starts pancaking civilian cars in the sixth film, Letty is disgusted). It's a weird level of flippancy and quite odd from a tonal perspective.
