5 Incredibly Weird Director Cameos In Their Own Movies

4. Peter Jackson In The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy

Peter Jackson LOTR The next time you decide to watch the trilogy in all its nine-hour glory (add on another two for the special editions), why not play a game called 'Spot Peter'? It's like 'Where's Wally?'; if Wally was a bulky, bearded and world-renowned film director. For Jackson has hidden himself into each of the adaptations (as well as The Hobbit), with varying degrees of subtlety. In The Fellowship of the Ring, he's the chap chomping on a carrot in Bree (mmm..carrot and brie), slightly the worse for wear and swayin' in the rain. In The Two Towers, he's right in the action; playing a spear-throwing Rohan soldier in the Battle for Helm's Deep. And, strangest of all, in The Return Of The King he appears as a corsair sailing into Gondor. Barely recognizable under dreadlocks, armour and, erm, an unkempt beard, he's no sooner spotted than slipping out of shot. Fortunately, he features more prominently in the extended cut - only to be killed by Legolas' ''warning shot''. What is it about directors with a death wish?
