5 Movie Spin-Offs That Suck

3. Son Of The Mask

Spin Off Movies Suck
New Line Cinema

Now let it be known, the original Mask film is an absolute gem. This movie approached its comic book source material with so much confidence and frantic energy that it was honestly exhausting. It might have been toned down a lot from its M rated original material but there was so much to enjoy that even cynics were able to embrace the lunacy. And we have one person to thank for that, well actually a lot of people as the makeup didn't apply itself and the animation department had their work cut out for them, but clearly Jim Carrey was the star of the show.

His under the skin mania is what drives this piece, his comic timing is excellent, his face its rubberiest it's ever been and his delivery was so on point that you could cut yourself on it. And so it pains me, so so much that spin-off Son of The Mask Exists, for this is without a doubt one of the few films that makes my skin almost invert itself thanks to how cringey it is but also nearly terrifies me to death with its shoddy effects.

As you might expect from a crappy spin off film, none of the original main cast are back, and as the budget has been axed so too has the quality of the practical effects. Just look at some of these stills from the movie, how the hell could anyone have thought this was a good look?!

And that's to say nothing of the terrifying visual that this film gives us of Tim this films hero having sex with his wife with The Mask on. The amount of freaky sh*t that must have happened that night would be off the scale.

This charming moment gives us a baby who has the inherent powers of The Mask, and we all know thanks to Twilight that babies and CGI just go so well together don't they?

And there we have it, absolute disappointment in a nutshell. However unfortunately it's not the only property that had Jim Carey attached to it that got butchered, no no because I now get the privilege nay the absolute joy of talking about the absolute skip fire that is Ace Ventura Jr: Pet Detective.
