5. There Has To Be Colonial Marines
Right, so the team of scientists (in AvP) and the small town locals of Gunnison (in Requiem) failed to be interesting or even entertaining in the least? The obvious answer is to introduce the Colonial Marines into the mix. Give the humans some firepower and even up the score a little. While providing firepower and badassery, the introduction of the Colonial Marines will allow the story to move forward in time (unlike the first two films which were set in the present day) and explore a whole range of possibilities closer to the Alien franchise, but with the great possibility to diverge (the addition of the Predators) and create its own unique mythology. Having the Marines around would not only allow for strong characters (see the next point for more on that) but also allow for all sorts of possibilities for a human villain to be added to the mix that could be as powerful and as a big a threat to the Marines survival as the creatures are. The Marines have become an iconic fixture of the Alien (and AvP in the video games in particular) universe since their introduction in James Camerons Aliens in 1986; imagine hearing the sound of the pulse rifle and the ominous beeping of the motion tracker on the big screen. It would be a joy. But for it to succeed, the film would need to be more than a homage to the previous Alien films, rather than just an Alien film with some Predators thrown in, the Marines need to be utilized in an unique way and seen as a genuine force against the aliens and more than a rehash of Aliens finest moments which the addition of Predators can allow for. Seeing a Predator go up against the Marines would be something special if done right.
