5 Upcoming Literature-Based Movies We Can't Wait To See

5. Child Of God

Based on the 1973 book by Cormac McCarthy, Child Of God is the account of Lester Ballard, a man who begins to consistently abandon the norms of human behaviour and tumbles downwards into an animal-like state of constant degradation and instinctive violence. We've heard very little about the film since it premiered in the summer at festivals like Venice and Toronto, but it's creepy-ass teaser trailer left us kind of wondering where the hell this one is going to take us, and made us both excited and a little scared. Unsurprisingly, this is James Franco's doing. Okay, so the guy is pretty annoying, but Scott Haze (who plays Ballard) and his weird twitching face has caught our eye, and even though Cormac McCarthy's latest movie involvement, The Counsellor, didn't really take off, we still think this one might just be messed-up and interesting enough to work. "A child of God, much like yourself perhaps." Like myself? I really hope not.
