9 Weirdly Erotic Scenes From Family Films
4. Sixteen Candles - Gratuitous Shower Scene
Crammed inside John Hughes' otherwise sweet and awkward coming-of-age story about a teenage girl who walks stumbles through an avalanche of embarrassment and comes out the other side better for it, there are boobies. Nudie boobies.
And not casual, background boobs. Nor are they subliminal-messages-about-the-growing-body boobs -- even though Hughes tries to frame their presence inside a discussion of the main character's body issues. No, these are in-your-face breasts, literally popping in out of nowhere.
One second a guy is talking to his buddy about a love interest, and the next second...BAM. Close-up of dripping wet breasts, complete with a purely 80s "boing" sound effect. (You know, to signify the arrival of a bunch of boners.)
The camera lingers on them for multiple beats before finally cutting over to Molly Ringwald and her friend, who are studying the "unusually large" bosoms of their classmate like a nature documentarian trying to understand the mating rituals of a platypus. And just for good measure, it cuts back to the girl's naked frame once more, so the audience can catch a glimpse of the "total package".
It's no wonder Hughes' next film, The Breakfast Club, was rated R.
