Aussie director working on The Scorpion King sequel?

xin_86c9535d671d4f53aeea86ba18ced1ef.jpgWith The Mummy 3 set to hit theatres next Summer, are we going to see a sequel to the franchise spin-off flick The Scorpion King also? That's the scoop that Shock Till You Drop have been given. They are telling us that Resident Evil: Extinction and Highlander director Russell Mulcahy will helm The Scorpion King 2 for Universal Pictures. The original 2002 movie was actually a success despite it's lukewarm reaction from fans and critics. The movie took home $91 million domestic when all was said and done and propelled the career of The Rock into becoming a mainstream Hollywood action star, and he has truly never looked back. It's not really that hard to believe this project could happen. I half expected when The Mummy 3 was green lit that a straight-to-dvd movie of The Scorpion King would be in the works with a young director and a new lead. Though with Mulcahy set to be behind the camera... maybe they have higher hopes for this thing? I can't image Mulcahy wanting to do a straight to dvd movie so soon after directing a Resident Evil movie. Another interesting factor is whether The Rock would want to return for the character?
