Avengers: Age Of Ultron - 10 Key Things We Already Know

9. Thanos Will Be A Presence... Again

Thanos will have a presence in the film, but the Mad Titan will not necessarily make an actual appearance, as stated by Joss Whedon:
We have to stay grounded. It's part of what makes the Marvel universe click €“ their relationship to the real world. It's science-fiction and Thanos is not out of the mix, but Thanos was never meant to be the next villain. He's always been the overlord of villainy and darkness.
It would certainly make for a wonderful mid-credits or post-credits scene to see Thanos in all of his glory and maybe hear him speak for the first time - and if he was to at least make his presence felt during the film, even if he doesn't actually appear, that would be cool as a lead-in to his undoubted appearance as the main villain in the third Avengers movie. Damion Poitier portrayed Thanos in his mid-credits cameo in the first Avengers movie, but he will not continue in the role. A recent rumour has suggested that Mel Gibson could be in line to take the job, but it is nothing more than a rumour at this stage.
