Considering Ken Loach's sublime drama will probably miss out on most major awards, this'll be a great way to reward a film and a performance that desperately needs more recognition.
Sure, she gets an added boost because she's British, but there will be a sure desire to single out such an astonishing performance that so few have been talking about.
Should She Win?: Considering that Viola Davis is only in this category due to fraudulent placement (she's definitely a lead actress in Fences) and Nicole Kidman shouldn't have even been nominated, yes.
Michelle Williams (Manchester by the Sea) and Naomie Harris (Moonlight) were great as well, but Squires feels like the right pick here.
