Breaking Bad Movie: 10 Things That Must Happen

We’re more than half a decade removed from the joyously morbid finale which wrapped up the Breaking Bad saga, yet it remains one of the most talked-about television experiences in recent years. Sure, TV networks and streaming services like Netflix put out quite a few exemplary originals since 2013 saw the end of Walter White’s unlikely drug empire, but none of them have quite managed to surmount what Vince Gilligan and company were able to cook up in Albuquerque.

Felina - the name of the show’s final episode - tied up most of the major plot threads and led to a satisfying conclusion which saw many of the remaining characters getting what they deserved. Though the ending appeared to be relatively finite, news broke late last year that the television franchise would be receiving a follow-up film starring none other than Aaron Paul.

The film, which is seemingly slated for a premiere on Netflix, will reportedly also see Bryan Cranston return to what was arguably his defining role. It’s something fans of the series have been dreaming about since the finale first aired, and many are hopeful that the film will finally explain a few niggling loose-ends and half-measures.

As the shimmering yet strangely bleak notes of Badfinger’s classic soft rock track Baby Blue played over the show’s closing moments, it seemed that Walter’s fate had been sealed. Injured during his devilishly defiant attack on Jack’s compound, his last moments spent admiring a meth lab’s equipment, police sirens screaming in the background, felt justifiably fitting.

That said, with Cranston reportedly signed on for a role in the upcoming film, Heisenberg may not have been as dead as previously believed. Though the glassy-eyed stare he gave audiences as the show’s last scene faded to black strongly implied that he was no more, it isn’t out of the realm of possibility that the police may have been able to revive him shortly after.

Fans probably wouldn’t prefer that to have been the case, but it would be nice to see Mr. White return to the series in one form or another. Cranston is most likely going to portray the character in flashback scenes, but, at this point, nobody is certain.

The ambiguity of the show’s ending may have enthralled many, but it’s time to learn definitely what happened to the Southwest’s most infamous drug lord.
