Captain America: The Winter Soldier - 10 Ways It Beats Thor 2

5. Better Balance Of Seriousness/Humour

Thor: The Dark World might be the outright funniest entry in the MCU to date, which isn't necessarily a bad thing: the jokes kept coming, one after the other, from every character gifted with the ability to speak. At some points, it even appeared as though we might be watching a full-on comedy. Though the funny factor was certainly appreciated, the high gag rate also meant that the movie felt weightless - as though the threats faced by Thor and company weren't all that serious. Thor gets on the London Underground during the final battle, for Odin's sake! The Winter soldier is an undoubtably funny movie, too, with several scenes standing out as some of the most hilarious to have graced any MCU thus far (one scene which takes place in - yes - the Apple store is sure to please anyone who enjoys the whole Captain America "man out a time" schtick). Unlike in The Dark World, though, the humour doesn't begin to overtake the movie and there's no sense that jokes are being used as filler. Both movies were written by the same two writers, of course (Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely), but here they seem to have struck a better balance - as a result, the consistency of the jokes is of a higher standard, too, with almost every one - especially those of the pop cultural variety - hitting their mark.
