While Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has already headlined a 2004 remake of the original 1973 offering, Charlotte Flair is now to star in another spin on Walking Tall.

Via Deadline, Flair will feature in a new Walking Tall from Battlestar Galactica writer/producer David Eick. This is part of Eick’s deal with NBCU, with the two-hour TV movie set to land on the USA Network. There’s also hope that, should the picture be well received, this will be the launching point for a franchise or ongoing series.

In Walking Tall, WWE’s Queen will play a Tucson cop who is forced to become a brutal vigilante in order to protect her small town from being exploited by murder, fraud and corruption.

The original Walking Tall was loosely based on the life of Sheriff Buford Pusser, with Joe Don Baker leading the charge in that film. Bo Stevenson replaced Baker in that role for two sequels, with Rambo favourite Brian Dennehy then playing Buford Pusser in 1978’s A Real American Hero TV movie.

As mentioned, Dwayne Johnson starred as Chris Vaughn in the 2004 Walking Tall remake. Following that, Kevin Sorbo headed up two straight-to-DVD sequels. Where this new Walking Tall is concerned, Village Roadshow will be producing the movie alongside Three Rivers, Mosaic and WWE Studios.
