Chris Nolan Is Going All Supernatural Again!
Having made the fanciful magician thriller The Prestige, a fantastical film about dreams and what appears to be a sci-fi inspired final Batman movie, Nolan has now set his sights on producing a mysterious supernatural thriller!
It appears Christopher Nolan has caught the producing bug lately, as word spread on Thursday (apologies for the lateness in a write-up but we have just launched a new site!!) that his company Syncopy will be lending their help to a supernatural thriller from writer/director Keith Gordon. Hot off directing the TV hit Dexter and an episode of the magical The Killing, Gordon previous cinematic credits include an early Robert Downey Jr comeback movie titled The Singing Detective and the 1992 war picture A Midnight Clear. In the 90's he was known as a smart and talented director who never got his big commercial break and his career somewhat flounded. Nolan, clearly a fan of his mature themed work, is about to give him the biggest platform of his career. Interestingly the supernatural thriller will be based on a novel that Nolan has bought the rights too but is keeping under-wraps. We don't even know if it's a contemporary book or an older one (he himself adapted Christopher Priest's supernatural tinged magicians novel The Prestige some 11 years after publication) and as Chris Nolan is a firm believer in keeping in-production films as mysterious as possible before release, this sounds like the latest tactic in protecting his interests. It also further proves Nolan's interest in the supernatural which all the signs point to his final Batman movie delving into. According to Deadline, Nolan's former assistant Jordan Goldberg is spearheading the project and Nolan may only be an executive producer on this, along with wife Emma Thomas, but with The Dark Knight director seemingly wielding some kind of movie Midas touch, anything related to the man has me already hooked. Currently filming some little known super hero movie; erm, The Dark Knight Rises or something, as well as godfathering/producering on Snyders Man Of Steel - Nolan is at the top of his game, and with this hold over the film world, we are sure some great films can be made under the Syncopy name. Can't wait to hear more about this one.
