Christopher Nolan's next film will officially be Interstellar, the ambitious sounding science fiction movie about the existence wormholes and time travel that has been written for the screen by his brother Jonathan Nolan (Memento, The Prestige, The Dark Knight Rises). Paramount and Warner Bros have just announced it'll be released on November 7th, 2014 in theatres and IMAX, in a rare joint venture for the rival juggernaut film studios. A deal for Chris Nolan to direct his brother's script was said to be
close two months ago and had already been in the pipeline in late 2012, but was continuously delayed as Warner Bros (where Chris is firmly at home after Inception and his Batman trilogy) and Paramount Pictures (who own the script and had struggled to get the movie off the ground for years) tried to thrash out a financial deal that worked for both of them. Thankfully that has now come to pass and we can look forward to the next chapter in the Nolan brothers' epic filmography. Additionally Interstellar now has an official, but very short and teasing synopsis;
The film will depict a heroic interstellar voyage to the furthest reaches of our scientific understanding.
Sounds like the plot of Star Trek! It was said
a few months back that the ambitious plot of Interstellar, said to have been based on scientific theories by Caltech physicist and relativity expert Kip S. Thorne, would revolve around the belief that wormholes not only exist but can be used for time travel. Much like Inception, the movie would revolve around a team on a mission, this time a group of explorers traveling through a wormhole into an alternative dimension. At one time the film was set to be a Steven Spielberg project but that never got off the ground and after years of stagnation, Chris Nolan decided to take a look at his brother's work, was said to have slightly re-wrote it with an idea of his own, and the result is this version of Interstellar we'll see in just over 18 months time. As for casting... could it be a Leonardo DiCaprio project? A Christian Bale one? Cillian Murphy, Tom Hardy or Joseph Gordon-Levitt? Or yet another combination of all of them? We'll have to keep guessing for now but one actor we know for sure will be in it is Chris Nolan's lucky charm Michael Caine. He's starred in Nolan's last FIVE movies and
has already been offered the gig, according to the actor last year.
