Christian Bale says TERMINATOR IV like BATMAN BEGINS?
Christian Bale has made a couple of interesting comments regarding the new Terminator movie (I know, it's complete coincidence we are going Terminator crazy at the moment with all the articles going up and I still plan on reviewing T2: Judgement Day on Blu-Ray this week also!) at a press Junket for The Dark Knight yesterday. One which might please Terminator fans and then one which is basically the same quote just said differently which may not please them. First up it's /Film...
What I saw with Terminator was what I saw with Batman Begins, Bale told /Film at The Dark Knight junket....While Batman Begins was clearly an origin story and we were in many ways ignoring any of the other films that had come before it, this wont be the case with Terminator, as were staying true to the mythology, certainly to one and two more than three, but it gave us the opportunity and the chance to reinvent and revitalize that. There is no point in making it otherwise. So that is my aim, and that is why I finally decided yes, I want to try this. Because that is the responsibility we have as filmmakers, and that is what Im aiming to achieve. But then he tells Rope of Silicon on the same night...
"In a similar fashion to what Chris did with Batman Begins, in the reinvention. With Terminator - clearly it's not an origin story - as with Batman Begins we were saying this is the first story, we're ignoring the others."Ignoring the others but staying true to the mythology. Does that mean then, it doesn't matter if you contradict with certain events from the previous series as long as you stay true to the feeling and basic principle of the franchise? Are we happy with that? I gotta say hell yes I am... after seeing what they did with Superman Returns in keeping contained within a restrictive franchise, something fresh and new is most definitely the way to go.
