Every 2016 Comic Book Movie Ranked Worst To Best

1. Captain America: Civil War

For all the potential pitfalls of double stuffing a movie and still attempting to draw a distinction between it and a straight Avengers movie, Captain America: Civil War is a hell of a thing. Sure, some of the less important characters are bumped a little sideways, but in focusing on the personal conflicts between Tony Stark, Captain America, Bucky and new beautifully understated villain Zemo, the Russos pulled off a masterstroke.

Civil War might not be a pure adaptation of the comic book source, but it has the right blend of spectacle - the airport scene is quite simply breath-taking - and the right balance in characterisation of new key players to more than make up for that. It's smartly written, packs a surprisingly authentic emotional punch and it has some of the greatest fan-baiting moments in any comic book movie.

Cynics will say it's too fun, and too played for laughs, but this is the crowning achievement of the MCU so far (well almost - Guardians Of The Galaxy is still a better overall experience). There's nothing that equals it for balance or set-pieces and Spider-Man's grand entrance is the stuff of dreams. A worthy winner.
