7. The Basilisk
The creature that purely exists to scare children. It's a giant snake that causes you to drop dead if you look into its eyes. It makes for a fantastic final set piece for the second film.
The model work and sound design are incredibly impressive; the scene where it corners Harry in the tunnel remains freaky to this day due to the frightening teeth and chilling hissing noises. The climatic confrontation with Harry killing the monstrous snake with the sword of Gryffindor remains one of the best moments of the franchise.
The hard work and impressive attention to detail needed to bring this beast to life cemented it as nightmare fuel for many young Potter fans.
