For 13 years and counting, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has built itself up as one of the most popular movie franchises in the history of the industry. Marvel Studios set the bar so high for shared universes in Hollywood that no other studio has really been able to get close to it as of yet.
This is not only in terms of quality of movies, depth of characters, and intricacy of tying 24 movies together, but in the box office as well. While filmmakers and audiences want to see great movies produced, there will always be a level of importance put on the bottom line.
With the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Kevin Feige and co. have managed to create something that satisfies both sides of this particular coin. The level and consistency of quality throughout the MCU is astounding, and it has racked up almost $23 billion at the box office since 2008.
However, that is certainly not to say that every movie has contributed equally to such a gargantuan success. While some have been unequivocal home runs, others have disappointed in terms of their box office gross, while the very lowest wouldn’t even affect the rounding up of the overall total of the franchise.
