Though the Super Bowl spot for Transformers: Rise of the Beasts was really more of a commercial for Porsche than anything, and ultimately showed a disappointing lack of the expected Beasts, it did give fans a more distinct look at the beloved Generation 1 Autobot Mirage.

More to the point, we got to hear him speak for the first time, and to the surprise of anyone who hasn't been keeping up with the casting announcements, he's being voiced by Saturday Night Live's Pete Davidson.

Somewhat unsurprisingly, given the rather divisive nature of Davidson's own brand of comedy, his placement as the voice of a major Transformers hero has proven polarising with the fanbase.

Though fans seem pretty positive about Mirage's design on social media, sentiment about Davidson's voice was all over the place, some feeling that it simply didn't fit the character, while others were pleasantly surprised how seamlessly he gave the character some personality.

In the very least, Davidson isn't just playing the part like "Pete Davidson but a Transformer," so that's encouraging.
