20 Horror Movies You Should Watch Totally BLIND
Go into these horror movies knowing NOTHING.
These days it's far too easy to know way, way too much about a movie before you go to see it - with social media marketing being as aggressive as it is, it can be genuinely tough to avoid things.
And so there's something to be said for trying to insulate yourself from the marketing blitz for a film you're already sold on, to ensure you experience it with fresh eyes and minimal outside influence.
But there are also those movies that leave such a bruising impact on unsuspecting audiences that if you're able to go in knowing absolutely nothing at all, that's only even better.
And that's definitely true of these 20 films, each of which benefits enormously from being watched with as little prior knowledge as humanly possible.
Perhaps they've got a jaw-dropping opening twist you won't see coming or do something daring with the cinematic form itself you won't expect, but whatever the reason, if you haven't seen these films yet, you should definitely go in as blind as you can.
Avoid the trailers, skip the discourse, and just watch them...
20. Don't Breathe
From its logline alone, Don't Breathe may sound like a pretty typical horror-thriller, in which a trio of young thieves break into a blind man's house (Stephen Lang) only to find him putting up far more of a fight than they expected.
But that barely scratches the surface of what filmmaker Fede Álvarez has primed for audiences, because Don't Breathe plays quite ingeniously with morality and with conventional notions of screen protagonists, as it unfurls an increasingly grim and eventually nauseating narrative web.
Jane Levy and Dylan Minnette are terrific as the embattled thieves while Lang steals every moment he's on screen as their grizzled target, and Álvarez does a marvellous job of mining the confined scenario for every claustrophobic drop it's worth.
It's just a shame that the second film - which Álvarez didn't direct - fell so thoroughly flat on its face in attempting to sequelise a story that didn't have obvious franchise potential from the jump.
