Kate Hudson has BIG EYES
Back in October, I said that small drama BIG EYES had the kind of rich material that could easily translate into an awesome movie if they could find the right combination of actor and actress for the lead roles. Well I can tell you thanks to today's Variety, Kate Hudson has been cast in the lead female role. At 28, she is a lot younger than the age I was expecting them to cast but it's an interesting choice considering she has been happy to float around in the less serious of genres recently. She will play Margaret Keane, a successful and talented painter who lived in exile in her family home whilst her talentless husband Walter took all the credit for her work, and sold them as if they were his own, reaping all the financial and critical acclaim for himself. The film will follow her journey of self confidence as she fought back against her husband to claim ownership of what was rightfully hers. As most of the cinematic elements of Keane's life are in her later years, Hudson will likely have to be aged upwards somewhat... and it's going to be a real task for her to keep up with this material. She hasn't done anything as dramatic as this since ALMOST FAMOUS. The film has been written and will be directed by the writers of 1408. They know a thing or two about real life figures having already penned THE PEOPLE VS. LARRY FLINT, ED WOOD and MAN ON THE MOON, three great movies about interesting life stories. I'm hoping for the same here, just don't cast Matthew McConaughey as her husband!
