20 Most Underrated Horror Movies EVER
10. Halloween III: Season of the Witch
Halloween III: Season of the Witch remains a hugely divisive sequel - if you can even call it a sequel - because, of course, it's the only Halloween movie not to feature Michael Myers himself.
Season of the Witch marked an attempt by John Carpenter, who never had much interest in Halloween as an ongoing franchise, to shift the IP into an anthology series of standalone films set around All Hallows' Eve.
But fans somewhat understandably felt a bit bamboozled by a title which suggested they'd get to see The Shape, and so many simply couldn't look past this and meet the movie where it was rather than wishing it were something else entirely.
Yet if you can approach Halloween III on its own terms, this is a genuinely diverting slice of bizarro folk horror, fusing capitalist satire with Halloween folklore in an extremely unique and memorable way.
It certainly has its rough edges, but compared to the intensely dire and utterly unambitious state of the Myers-centric Halloween sequels, it's a big, bold swing that hits far more than it doesn't.
