No J. Jonah Jameson In SPIDER-MAN Reboot

One of the big questions we posed Sony when they boldly announced plans to reboot their lucrative Spider-Man franchise and send Peter Parker back to high-school was - "Just how would they manage to re-cast the pivotal roles of Mary Jane Watson, Harry Osbourne and most troublesomely, J. Jonah Jameson, with the previous series & memorable performances (well, maybe not Dunst) still lodged so recently into our minds?" Today, the answer to that question has just become crystal clear. They don't re-cast. They avoid major those decisions, at least for now, just like the James Bond reboot did with the characters of Q and Miss Moneypenny, who so far have not turned up in the new 007 series. IGN reports that there will be no appearance for J. Jonah Jameson in the new Spider-Man reboot, something we probably could have guessed as there's been no announcement of any castings yet and they are clearly well into filming. So whilst we know The Daily Bugle is in the new film, or at least acknowledged as those leaked images suggested yesterday, it looks like Parker won't get to meet his future Editor-in-Chief just yet. Does that mean no Zooey Deschanel as Betty Brant either? Shame. But I think it's a good call on the Jameson front. Save that for movie number two when we are all a little calmer, maybe, about the idea of this reboot existing in the first place. Though I would say it's a lot easier to leave out J Jonah Jameson than it is to leave out Harry Osbourne, Parker's childhood best friend. At this point, if Harry is in the film, they are doing a great job of disguising it.
